INEOS Grenadier Goes Nautical With Helmsman Edition

The INEOS Grenadier is already built for adventures that don't involve pavement as much as it is for those on-tarmac, but its latest special edition suggests the next great off-road destination might actually ditch the trails for the marina. Meet the 2027 Grenadier Helmsman, a nautical-inspired variant that adds exclusive styling and extra equipment to the boxy British 4x4.

Available in both Station Wagon and Quartermaster pickup configurations, the Helmsman kicks off a new series of special editions "inspired by the elements." Its ocean-derived personality comes through in a choice of colors like Eldoret Blue, Scottish White, or the exclusive Whiteout Blue metallic finish, previously reserved for INEOS's Arcane Works customization program.

Buyers can also choose contrasting black or white roofs to help provide the inverse effect of the boat buyers might be pulling with their Grenadier (or Quartermaster).

A Dark Exterior Pack brings a black grille, dark skid plates, and matte-black roof rails, while 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels give the rugged machine a little extra polish-- or posh, should that be your vibe. Inside, black leather seats with oyster-colored inserts add contrast without straying too far from the Grenadier's utilitarian, old-school 4WD roots.

The Helmsman also bundles heated leather seats, privacy glass, ambient lighting, front parking sensors, auxiliary electrical outlets, and carpet mats over heavy-duty rubber flooring. A rear access ladder comes with the Station Wagon, while the Quartermaster gets a load-bay tub.

Underneath, the familiar powertrain remains unchanged. It's a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six producing 282 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Nothing crazy, but a surprisingly reliable and durable setup.

Pricing for the U.S. market has not been officially announced, though the model is expected to start around $95,000. Orders are open, but production will be limited. How limited is yet to be determined.

The Helmsman won't make the Grenadier more capable off-road, yet that's no different from how other automakers are capitalizing on wannabe-wheelers while giving them an extra dose of luxury. Instead, it packages desirable extras into a more distinctive machine while giving buyers another excuse to spend more money, and manufacturers a way to get them to do so.
